Asterisks on both sides of a unit's name mean that the unit in question is exceptional within it's class and/or rarity.

Terminology

Damage Nullification - Can reduce both physical and magical damage (potentially to zero) through either skill or passive.

Dodge - Any unit with Evasion whether passive or skill-activated (regular Evasion cannot dodge magical attacks).

Duelist - Any melee unit with 1 Block.

Event - The unit was a reward or drop from an event.

Healer - Units capable of healing other units.

Hybrid - Units that change roles due to skill activation, or class passive (such as Bishops, Mage Armors, or Priest Warriors).

Instant Caster - Units with a notable instant-cast skill (such as Purupuru, Patras, Sandra etc).

Magic Tank - Any unit with high (above 10%) magic resistance and/or Damage Nullification

Magical Damage - Units that deal magical damage (ignores Defense).

No Block - Melee units that normally do not block enemies (some can block after skill activation).

Offensive - Any unit that has stat allocations, skills, or passives that encourage being used as a damage dealer. Units in classes that aren't normally considered damage dealers can qualify in this category if they have a Skill or Passive that greatly boosts their damage dealing capabilities compared to other members of their class. For example; Miranda, Maribel, Deine, and Dina all qualify as Offensive units despite being members of one of the least damage-oriented class.

Physical Damage - Units that deal physical damage (ignores Magic Resistance).

Ranged Melee - Melee units that can attack at range despite being placed in melee deployment spots.

Rare Skill - Any unit with a skill possessed by very few other units. Often the only ways to level these skills are to farm them during a specific event, buy units from the Gacha (likely Premium), or use Rainbow Fairies.

Self-Recovery- Units capable of healing only themselves.

Specialist - Units that either fulfill special roles not covered above, or have Awakening Passives that do so.

Status Immune - Any unit that is immune to status effects.

Support - Units that in some way increase the effectiveness of your army with a skill/passive that effects units other than themselves. This includes the [Request Reinforcement] Skill, Auras, Buffs, and Debuffs.

Tank - Any unit that has stat allocations, skills, or passives that encourage being used as a tank against physical damage. Needs to have at least 2 Block.

True Damage - Classification for units that can deal True Damage.

Prince
There is only one unit in this class. The prince is a melee unit with 1 Block. The Prince gives a mapwide buff when deployed onto the map that buffs Attack and Defense of all allied troops. For titles, it's recommended that new players stick with Titles that buff the effectiveness of the Prince's Aura, however; effective switching of the title can allow the Prince to fulfill many other roles.

Soldiers
Soldiers are melee units with 2 Block, which upgrades into 3 Block after Class Evolution. Stat-wise Soldiers are often lacking, especially in Defense. However; they have a fast attack speed and low cost between four and fourteen. Also notable is the fact that most Soldiers possess of a variation of the [Request Reinforcements] Skill which produces Deployment Points.
[Silver] Mercenary Crave
The most common silver male soldier; he is disliked due to his lack of a [Request Reinforcements]. Instead he possesses the Skill. He is usually used as Class Changing / Awakening Material in the place of Phyllis / Assal.
Offensive, Physical Damage

*[I][Silver] Greenhorn Soldier Phyllis*
The most common silver female soldier. She can be used even in some of the hardest maps in the game. Her [Request Reinforcements] Skill is well loved. If brought to minimum cost while being kept without being class-changed, she can take the place of minimum cost bronze soldiers due to a large (33%) increase in Defense for only a single additional deployment cost.
Physical Damage, Support

[Silver] Rosalie (Unreleased)
Rosalie has an Evasion-based [Mind's Eye] Skill which gives her 50% evasion (the same as a Rogue). She is sometimes used as an early starter in place of Phyllis / Assal on certain harder maps. As an Elf, she has lower HP, but higher attack and magic resistance compared to the other Silver Soldiers. Interesting to note is that Rosalie is the only Soldier in the game that has magic resistance (even if only a pitiful 5%).
Dodge, Physical Damage

[Silver] Gustav (Unreleased)
Although the Silver Soldier with the strongest stats, Gustav is also the one with the weakest skill, [Protection of the Phoenix]. [Protection of the Phoenix] rescues Gustav once by returning him to 50% HP if his HP hits 0 while the Skill is active. However; with an initial wait time of 85-89 seconds, you will very rarely want to keep Gustav on the field long enough to even see the skill finish charging up. And on the off chance that you do leave him on the field long enough to use his skill, it has a duration of 35-55 seconds, followed by another 85-89 second cooldown. Also important to note is that Gustav also has a hidden attack speed modifier, he attacks approximately 20% slower than all other Soldiers. He uses 37 frames in his complete attack rotation, as opposed to the standard 31 frames (29 after Awakening).
Physical Damage, Rare Skill, Self-Recovery, Tank

*[Silver] Assal (Unreleased)*
Assal is essentially the Desert-variation of Phyllis and is used in the exact same way.
Physical Damage, Support

[Gold] Commander Julian
Julian has an upgraded [Request Reinforcements II] Skill which gives ten Deployment Points which will be upgraded upon Class Evolution to [Request Reinforcements III] for fifteen points instead. However; he has sub-par stats compared to the other two Gold Soldiers; and a less useful Critical Hit Passive. Julian is useful for players who did not get a minimum cost Aria during the Ryuujin Invasion Event (attempting to get a minimum cost Aria during Revival Events is many dozens of times harder). Players who did get a minimum cost Aria however will most likely only use Julian on male-only missions.
Physical Damage, Support

*[Gold] Lieutenant Aria*
Aria is an Event unit which has an upgraded [Request Reinforcements II] Skill which gives ten Deployment Points which will be upgraded upon Class Evolution into [Request Reinforcements III] which will give fifteen points instead. Her Awakening Passive gives a permanent +2% attack buff to all units in the loadout. Notable is that players during her Event had the chance to easily reduce her to minimum cost which greatly boosts her effectiveness. In comparison to Katie she has a more-offensive oriented stat allocation and passive. Overall, she's the weaker of the two stat-wise; however, her passive is the superior one in general.
Event, Physical Damage, Offensive, Support

*[Gold] Tactics Instructor Katie*
Katie is the free Gold Soldier given for the three-star completion of her set of Drills. She has the [Request Reinforcement II] Skill. Her Awakening Passive is the opposite of Aria's, and will give +2% defense buff to all units as long as she is in the loadout. Her base stats are superior to Aria's (although in a much more defensive allocation), but her Awakening Passive is the less useful of the two.
Event, Physical Damage, Support, Tank

*[Platinum] Tactician Jerome*
Jerome is most well-known for his Awakening Passive that gives you a free +2 Deployment Points at the start of missions when Jerome is in your loadout. Stat-wise he is inferior to Xenobia however; and just slightly better than Aria / Katie. Most people keep Jerome in their loadout for his Awakening Passive, but then instead use Aria/Katie as their main soldier due to lower cost.
Physical Damage, Specialist, Support, Tank

*[Platinum] Sword Saint Xenobia (Unreleased)*
The Soldier with the highest stats.
Offensive, Physical Damage, Support, Tank

Xenobia >/= Jerome > mincost Aria > Aria = Katie > Julian > Phyllis = Assal > Rosalie > Crave > Gustav

Heavy Armor
They are the standard class used to tank physical damage. Heavy Armors are unit with 3 Block, which can be upgraded to 4 Block after Awakening. Heavy Armors are characterized by extremely high Defense and HP, but no Magic Resistance. Heavy Armors have a medium to high cost between fourteen and twenty seven.
[Silver] Golden Shield Bernard
The farmable male Silver Heavy Armor. His stats are roughly equal (with slight variations) to Leeanne's. However, male Trust items are harder to farm than female Affection items; so Leeanne is usually ranked higher. However, Bernard is often leveled anyways due to lack of male Heavy Armors.
Physical Damage, Tank

[Silver] Woman of Steel Leeanne
The female farmable Silver Heavy Armor. Her stats are again, roughly equal to Bernard's. However, the ease of farming female Affection items usually makes her the preferred silver Heavy Armor.
Physical Damage, Tank

[Gold] Vandal Garrett
Offensive, Physical Damage, Tank

*[Gold] Large Shield Maiden Bernice*
Bernice is the preferred Defensive Heavy Armor for freemium players because she is often a completion reward for Gold Rush Events. She is currently the second best Defensive Heavy Armor in the game.
Physical Damage, Tank

*[Platinum] Shield of Light Julius*
Julius is the best Defensive Heavy Armor in the game, which is unusual in that he is also a male unit.
Physical Damage, Tank

[Platinum] Holy Warrior Maribel
Damage Nullification, Event, Offensive, Physical Damage, Rare Skill, Tank

[Platinum] Miranda (Unreleased)
Event, Offensive, Physical Damage, Tank

[Black] Dina (Removed from Nutaku)
Offensive, Physical Damage, Tank

[Black] Iron Arm Maiden Deine
Offensive, Physical Damage, Tank

Offensive Heavy Armor
Deine = Dina > Miranda >/= Maribel > Garret

Defensive Heavy Armor
Julius > Bernice > Leeanne ~= Bernard

Valkyries
Valkyries are a rare class where their usage is often entirely dependent on their rarity. Valkyries gain 1 Deployment Point for every enemy they kill, and additionally receive 70% instead of 50% of their own Deployment Cost back upon Retreat. After Awakening, this increases to 100%.
Silver Valkyries (especially Mischa) are often used as an opener on Goblin-heavy maps where they can easily farm Deployment Points at the start. Higher rarity (or high level Silver Valkyries) are used as Duelists due to their Magic Resistance, high single-target physical damage, and single block. Valkyries have a medium cost between thirteen and twenty.
[Silver] Lancer Elaine
Elaine is often benched in favor or Mischa. This is because Elaine has a Defense-boosting Skill as well as well an HP Affection Bonus. Neither of these are suiting of the Silver Valkyrie's primary role.
Duelist, Magic Tank, Physical Damage

*[Silver] Apprentice Cavalry Mischa (Unreleased)*
A 50CC40+ Mischa is a must-have for high level players, due to many Great Suppression maps disabling passive Deployment Point regeneration. Her Attack Affection Bonus is very helpful in letting her one-shot weaker Goblins, and her Recovery Skill often helps her survive long enough for Healers to be set up.
Duelist, Magic Tank, Offensive, Physical Damage, Self-Recovery

[Gold] Lancer Kerry
Kerry is often said to be a subpar Valkyrie because similar to Elaine, she has an HP Affection Bonus rather than an Attack Bonus. This results in even Mischa out-damaging her until Kerry achieves Awakening which gives her a 1.35x multiplier to her Attack, at the cost of an approximately 40% decreased attack speed. After this, due to much higher Attack, Kerry finally begins shining as a Duelist (she arguably becomes even worse as a Cost Farmer though).
Duelist, Magic Tank, Offensive, Physical Damage

*[Platinum] [White Lily Knight Thetis]*
Duelist, Magic Tank, Offensive, Physical Damage, Status Immune

*[Platinum] Black Spear Knight Dahlia*
Duelist, Magic Tank, Offensive, Physical Damage

[Platinum] War Maiden Emilia (Unreleased)
Duelist, Magic Tank, Offensive, Physical Damage, Rare Skill

*[Black] Unicorn Knight Clissa*
Duelist, Magic Tank, Offensive, Physical Damage, True Damage

Whoops, forgot to add in Cuterie's name after looking her back up. Also alphabetized the glossary. Soldiers are basically done, Heavy Armors up next.
