No, this is not a Nutaku game.

So an oft-asked question is "what would playing KanColle be like?" Given all the hype on whether Nutaku might bring it over or not, you may want to be familiar with the game mechanics. Technically playing KanColle itself with a translated overlay is possible now. But suppose you don't want to fiddle with all that?

Enter Milihime (http://yahoo-mbga.jp/game/12022153/play). Near-identical game mechanics with a slightly more polished combat engine. Your units are famous WWII heroes (from Europe and US) turned into waifus.

Honestly, not gonna play a game in a language I don't understand. Even if the plot isn't amazing, I still want to experience it.

Even if you would be too much bothered with downloading a tool that translates Kancolle, it makes no difference. You can't understand a word in Milihime nor Kancolle.
So what would be a good reason/motivation to play rather Milihime than Kancolle?

Not that I mind you posting the game. I'm just missing some details/reasoning in your post e.g. to explain "more polished combat engine".

It's a valid point. I made this thread in response to a conversation elsewhere. As I was in a hurry, I didn't think of the more general audience. That conversation roughly went "not sure if I want to KanColle when it comes over to Nutaku, can I sample its gameplay beforehand?"

So let's do this, why you'd want to play this instead of KanColle itself. First the small (but not necessarily trivial) things:
- Setting: preference for European theatre of WWII instead of Japan.
- Easier Access: KanColle requires more technical hoops to play - a VPN to fake a .jp IP address, setting your system clock, getting selected by a lottery when a new server opens (not sure if this hoop still applies). Milihime doesn't need anything special once you have a Yahoo.co.jp account.
- 3D engine in combat graphics: the battles look better than without losing anything KanColle does.
- Leniency in death: KanColle has permadeath. Milihime allows rez.


KanColle is notorious for aggravating targeting habits by the AI. As you may know, there is no player interaction once combat starts (this is unchanged in Milihime). Select units, decide formation, watch wanton waste of firepower. Great battleship cannons will happily waste their turn shooting at a 1 HP destroyer when there's an enemy battleship right in front of them. In Milihime, units face off against their opposite slots first. Artillery help other units by shooting many times a turn. Ok sure you can still have big guns wasting their shot on a near-dead tiny target but you can do something about that: formation choice influences who faces who so (provided you win at scouting) you can ensure the big gun is paired against a big target.

Since you have strong player influence on combat pairings, there are rewards for good formation decisions. Tactical commanders are terrible in a fight (and easily shot out of action) but if kept alive they grant everyone an extra shooting phase as well as a nice buff ("elite tactics"). For example, Rommel (in a command jeep). Infantry are guaranteed to crit (very hard) if they survive until the end of combat, which just might be the (cost effective) edge you need.

Registered for yahoo.jp, yet haven't gotten a chance to get into the game. Going to try it right now. Honestly I can't imagine Nutaku handling KanColle too well, but it's better to be prepared. Biggest problem I'm having is my lack of Japanese, but as long as you know what goes where, it should be fine.

I'm not sure why I play Kanpani Girls, because I haven't read a single sentence of the story, but it's a good time killer I suppose. Kind of interested in the genre and Schverika lent me a helping hand. ^^.

Time to make tank waifus.

Things to note: maps have paths. Sometimes you need a specific composition to go the 'correct' path. For example, 1-1 requires infantry (in any 1 slot) to get to the boss node. Sometimes it's just RNG.

I assume you've figured out how to repair and resupply. The alarm clocks are the equivalent of KanColle's instant-repair buckets. You can get these from daily quests ("missions") and some maps give you one for touching a specific node.

It's earlygame, don't worry about efficiency as all those units you are raising right now (light tanks and infantry) don't really matter for most later maps. Once you start getting medium tanks and some sort of artillery, then we can get talking. Note there are priority mediums you should raise for their class changes ("promotion"). I'll list them out later.

These are pretty common drops who later class change into units you can build around. Yes, there are alternatives if you don't like them.


To speed-level, send out a unit solo into 1-1. x5 EXP because it's not shared out with other units. x1.5 EXP because leader. x2 EXP because guaranteed to be the MVP. If you take 0 damage from combat (i.e. S-grade result) then that's a further bonus to EXP.

Oh and if your units get down to red HP in a battle, they'll be vulnerable to going to 0 HP starting from the next battle. If they ever actually reach 0 HP, KanColle would just delete the unit. Milihime just gives you a large repair bill to get them back. Still, don't let this happen. Abort a sortie if this becomes a risk.

That.. is a decent amount of stuff to note. But just that last part scares me about KanColle. Alright, I'll keep my eyes peeled for the units mentioned, they seem necessary (somewhat), and I don't think I made it for the xp dungeon, sorry about that, busy schedule T-T

I'm guessing after a few levels anyone can solo 1-1?

In fact, anyone who isn't infantry can solo it right from Lv 1. Pretty sure even infantry can manage it.

Oh, note you have a maximum unit roster size of 100 and maximum item inventory size of 400. If it gives you a big dialogue box with a button sending you to the scrap screen, you've hit maximum in one of those.

At some point, you'll be able to farm 2-3. The orange nodes on this map give you useful consumables: instant repair and instant recruit.

Almost thought this game would be in german. Would have been wonderful for me at least.
