    Ability levels/types help with combos.

I can use attack in one battle and it gives me a combo activating 2 other abilities. I use it again next battle, the same way and it does no combo activation of any other skills.
basically what I'm asking is what's the algorithm the program uses to activate multiple ability combos.

Okay, so Combo means many different things here, so I shall try to answer what a I think you are asking. Let me know if I miss!

If you are fighting a Conquest battle or Revival battle, every time you launch an action (attack, magic, support) you might get one or more Support skills to activate.

Note that Support in that description is used twice, meaning two different things. The first is "Support" as a type of action, shown as an up (buff) or down (de-buff or param down) arrow next to a skill. The other types being physical single target (one sword), physical multi target (three swords), magic single target (pentagram)' magic multi target (blobby thing) Front line are called "Recovery" skills for some reason, and rear line are called Support skills.

Then there are "Support" skills representing the third skill any decent card has, where support means not front, not rear, and zero cost to activate. That's the second use of support in the sentence. I will call these auto-s below, hopefully to avoid confusion.

The actual parameters for activation of auto-s are not shared. But they always increase as the skill level rises. If you have two identical auto-s named skills on different cards, then the chance of activation is added together - but only one can ever activate at a time.

Clearly, some auto-s cards activate far more frequently than others. I have one called Fire Lamp that activates in nearly every fire effect launched, while focused strike seems fairly infrequent, even though I have two cards using it. Higher rarity cards seem to trigger more frequently, so expect to see your LR/SSR auto-s fire more often than your SRs.

Now, if you are referring to actual Combos, in Conquest or Revival, these happen when you alternate attacks with team mates. If you are talking about actual Combos in Raid battles, these activate based upon skill level, and stack with other activated skills of the same element. Again, exact frequency unknown, but assume around 10% plus 2% per skill level; level 20 skills fire off about half the time, level 1 skills very rarely.

I trust the forum experts will correct anything they spot that I have got wrong.

so if I have all support skills at 100 and all other skills front and rear at zero. "not that this can happen" I attack with a basic attack my support skills will pop off as the game has its way of triggering them?

Yes, except skills max out at 20. Oh, and some of them are action specific. Like increase damage for magic attacks, or increase fire effects. Some can trigger on anything though, like increase own parameter or decrease enemy parameter effects.
