Are Samurai too niche to invest in?

Recently rolled a Sakuya and was wondering if it's worth it at all to level her up and whatnot. I realize that there will be a future UP decrease to Samurai, but I'm not sure if even something like this provides enough leverage to having her around. She just looks like a nice unit to have around to slaughter a bunch of small little goblins trying to rush down but will be utterly destroyed in any scenario where she ends up blocking two large foes.

I feel like most people wouldn't recommend Samurai at all, but it'd be a real waste if she just sat in my box doing nothing. Are there any particularly hard maps (Nutaku or DMM) where having a samurai would help, or are they even beyond their niche and are just inferior to everything else?

I have good news for you: after Awakening they block 3 target, leading to even faster deaths against anything that matters! XD

Anyway, you will want to CC her as without it she won't be able to fulfill her role of bed warmer properly, being locked out of her second scene

it's fine to have 1 level'd, just for maps where you could use them to gank a couple of units at the same time (2 gob archers standing together, 2 gob mages, 1 archer 1 mage etc.)

Definitely not a priority, but as sora said, it's ok to have one leveled for those maps that might appear once in a blue moon.

They're niched, yes, the only use that you can find for them is to handle a very large early rush when you can deploy healer but not enough to deploy mage.If you look at Lafate guide for class and army you'll see that he classified them as " Anti-Rush" unit, given the right condition. But generally, a soldier to generate UP(which may cost from 10-Arya to Jerome-11, if you can min-costed them) and a healer(from 15 to 18) is better.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing.

I think I will just save leveling her when I'm absolutely finished with leveling everything else and it is a break week...

Well she gets with her aw a 2% chance of assassinating an enemy and that's quite a lot for a unit that deals dmg to all units it blocks.
Sakuya is also not so bad, with aw she boosts Samurais and Ninjas attack for 7% by just having her in the team. What can be usefull, if you need a ninja to deal a good amount of damage. But that's still quite situational and in most times just a more-value setting.
So yeah no hurry in lvling them, but they can be nice.

I tried using a Samurai and I found they are too niche for my style of play. The only time they did much as if I couldn't get an archer in range due to limited ranged unit slots. And even then I wished I used a Soldier or 2 cheap single Duelists instead. Even a heavy does better a lot of the time and Samurai are about the same price to play.

Its a pity as the idea behind them is interesting but they are too expensive for what they do. The cheaper options are all better and versatile.

That's Shizuka, not Sakuya. And tbh, you need ninja(they're technically ranged rogue, due to 2/3 of them currently in Nutaku has 50% eva during skill) and after AW, ninja cost go down while Samurai go up, so unless you got Shizuka otherwise Samurai is better if you in need of blocker after your whole team has been deployed and your soldier has no other job to do.
