View Full Version : Spare Gold: AW Fodder, CR Fodder, or Rainbow Crystals?

Right, so as the title so helpfully implies, I've got a small number of extra gold units and I was wondering which would be more beneficial. Using them to Awaken Units, to Cost Reduce same units, or to just cash them in for coin and Rainbow Crystals.

I recall everyone saying using spare silver units to Evolve/CC was the better option than Cost Reduction, but I'm not sure it was equivalent here, since I could theoretically get other spare silver units to fulfill the AW cost needs. Any opinion is appreciated in this inquiry.

NEVER use golds as awakening fodder. As for whether use them for SU/CR or trade them for RC - it's up to you to decide, if unit is useful to you, then you'll want CR him (or even try to mincost), if not - just sell him for RC.

You underestimate the cash some guys are willing to burn. I'll say if you have >2000 rainbow crystals and have no use of those gold units anymore, AW fodder is perfectly acceptable.

For the rest of us, its mostly :

Is that gold unit worth CCing? Eg. Will I use it often enough? Will reducing cost matter? Is she my waifu?
If the answer is no to those questions then turn them to RC.

Well, judging by that "I've got a small number of extra gold units" part, I guess it's safe to say that he isn't one of those people, who's ready to spend a sum, comparable to a budget of a small African country just to get a bunch of units (besides, such people can't possibly have a problem with silver fodder). And for normal players it's a common rule - to get the most of what you can from the what you can get.

Well, as the above exchange should tell you, it depends on:

Are you willing to spend money on this game?

If so, gold units will end up being expendable in the long run. If not, it's recommended to hang on to them.

Assuming you are NOT going whale (big spender), it also depends on what gold unit. Bernice and Iris are mainstay gold units that are worth CR due to the fact they are highly useful and used often. Anemone is a great gold if you did not score Sabinne (the fact you're asking makes me pretty sure you don't have Horace) let alone Sybilla, since ranged magic attack has its uses. Julian is a more offensive alternative to Katie (higher attack, lower defense, same skill but easier to CR) and if you do CR/SU him he becomes preferable for the primary role of soldiers if you don't have Jerome (plat soldier). Kerry is a solid UP ramp if you don't have Dahlia, Thetis or Clissa. If you missed Belinda and haven't scored Adele or Despara, Yuyu is fantastic (even if you have all 3 of those, she has her uses). Zola is great for AoE physical damage, and Mehlis is a good mage (doesn't match up to the plat and black ones besides cost, obviously).

Ultimately, the biggest question is: Will I use this unit a lot? Most gold units are great for non-spenders but even spenders will get mileage out of Iris and Bernice, but some are just plain used more often than others, and some you might have alternatives for already. Did you pull Thetis? Kerry just got a lot more expendable. Got Jerome? Julian can hit the hay. Sasha/Garania? Not much use for the gold mages.

Also, the most common classes for AW fodder are soldiers (Gold: Julian, not counting Katie because she's currently unique), witches (Gold: Yuyu, Cloris is unique), Valkyries (Gold: Kerry), Healers (Gold: Iris, Fedora), Heavy Armor (Gold: Bernice, Garret) and Mage (Gold: Barbastroff, Mehlis, Cyrus). Out of those, the more "expendable" gold units are Fedora (generally outclassed by Iris as a healer), Garret (totally outclassed by Bernice for the job of a HA) and both male gold mages (Mehlis outperforms both under most circumstances).

Regardless of what you do, make sure you have units that can fill the role of the gold you're discharging or using as AW fodder. Last thing you need is to use your only Iris as AW fodder and be stuck with silver healers, for example.

Ok, so never awakening and from there choose at your discretion. I guess combining once just to get that guaranteed reduction and skill level is fine. Though I can't imagine Rainbow Crystals being a common thing for me... hmm.

I'm guessing RC will be used for something other than trying to get that Dark Knight unit? Anyone have a link or something to the units that we can use RC to get?

There are a few units I seen on videos on dmm that are from RC like the dark knight, but I have no Idea when/If they will ever come to nutaku

anyways heres the link to the dmm wikia (http://seesaawiki.jp/aigis/d/%b8%f2%b4%b9%bd%ea)

(If you use Chrome just translate everything to english)

As I recall you will probably get a copy of tatician (400 RC) (dmm gave me), last one for 20 RC is 2nd AW fairy just appeared at end of Oct,
oh in page there was the day they were implemented if my memory serves me right, you will see them one by one after the curse user event shows up 2346

Hmm... difficult choices, difficult choices. Though right now all I would want is the strategist. Maybe just when I got doubles of someone. I dunno. Anyways, thanks for all this info.

*after rechecking units*

Wait, that Cynthia girl wasn't a fairy? Man now I'm even more conflicted.

I won't recommend you brooding over RCs, I'll recommend you go straight dark knight if you have the RCs available because god knows when the others will come to nutaku.

Not to mention RC are for whales mostly, since you have to discharge Gold+ units (not very common if you aren't spending) and event units take a huge hit to their trade-in value. The only way to...

Honestly, when i got my second garret... i used one of them to AW my Bernice. Events just had such long breaks. Silvers got rare. What can i say? I dont intend to ever use garret but since im a collector i keep at least one copy of every rare unit. When i get a second one being as "useless" as garret though (heck even leannee makes a better second HA to bernice then garret) i can just as well save me some gold, save me some farming and save me 2 silvers.
Same would go for lets say Stray and AWing Archers like Bashira and Spica. Or your second cyrus when u already have mehlis and garania. The RC are not worth it as i dont spend so much that i will hit 1000 RCs anytime soon.
In my eyes using golds as AW fodder is absolutly acceptable if you know for sure u never itend to use them ever. (and if your like me u will keep around at least one copy anyways)

Well, if you're NEVER going to use them (Garret is a good example, even the silvers do his job better) and you're not interested in saving toward RC units (non-whales will take ages to get enough RC so some of them may give up on it altogether) then sure, it's fine to use such units for AW fodder. If you have interest in RC or think you might use the gold, then I'd heavily recommend NOT using them as AW fodder if you aren't a full-whale player.
