View Full Version : Warning on using Nutaku

I want to take the time to warn everyone about nutaku, which has just wiped my gold for not using it. The details of the circumstances are below, TL;DR they are shady, while not an outright scam they are the next best thing to it.

Today logging into account I noticed that my 6k+ gold was wiped.

Inquire to support got me a reply that I didn't spend gold for too long so it was wiped, and the solution they give me? To rebuy the 6k+ gold "with just 70 dollars" which is a direct quote, screenie linked below.

They added a snub on top of saying there's a 10k gold sale for 99.94$, a 0.6$ saving.

Basically the gold wipe is permanent, and they throw in some snub on top.

I don't doubt they have some fine print somewhere that says they can wipe my gold under blah blah blah conditions at this point.

I've known nutaku to be a less then stellar establishment for awhile, unfortunately i bought the gold when they were fairly new to support new english effort on that front before they started to showed their hand.

A screenshot of the reply from nutaku's support.

Tough luck. Your own fault for not reading the f'ing FAQ, really.

Really, you had to post this here too?

This guy posted the same thing in like 10 ULMF threads. He's either stupid or just another anti-Nutaku troll.

And the latter wouldn't even be a bad thing if he actually had something worth complaining about.

Wow, that's very cold of you. Have a bit of sympathy, people! If you really believe this way of thinking then: The next time when you bump into your own furniture, you should just ignore your pain and not expect any pity because you did this to yourself. You knew where your furniture and how large your body is.

Anyway, I am so sorry to hear that, Herald. I hate gift cards and in-store credit for same reason. They can always deprecate and expire. Now that I know that Nutaku Gold can expire. I will definitely be more careful from buying premium currency from Nutaku. I would have never realize this problem if you did let us know. I usually buy premium currency for android games and they never expired on me before. It is a bit strange, but whatever. Thank you for warning us about a potential problem.

But... this is the logical way of thinking, isn't it? Because you have a brain, and thus you can think and make your own choices, and be responsible for your decisions. If you spend your money on something, but didn't read the contract and lost your investment because of your ignorance, then the fault is yours, right?

While Nutaku definitely has a bad track record in being open about information, screwing up development/contracting/whatever and overall being greedy cash-grabbing pigs (to the point it can ruin games), this time I have to toss my lot with the minimal sympathy crowd. It's in the FAQs (unlike some other issues people have had), after all. Personally, I buy N Gold regularly, but I know I'm going to spend it within the next 30 days (generally within 2 weeks), and I don't buy in advance (though to be fair, I'm a low-tier/casual whale so I spend on N games quite a bit more than some here).

Wow, thanks for posting this OP. I have purchased gold a number of times, and never realized that there was an expiration date on it, nor that the company wouldn't honor your original purchase when you come back. Seems awful scummy/shady, especially considering this information has to be dug out of the FAQ, and is not presented to you upon purchase.

Well, it's clearly his fault for not reading faq. And I believe that nutaku sends e-mail if your gold is about expire (like one week before it expires), so it's also his fault for not checking e-mail.

It's really hard to pity you since it's your fault for not reading faq or e-mails. Although it would great if gold was permanent but guess what! Nutaku isn't the only one with premium currency that can expire. So next time how about reading faq before you buy anything? This way you can avoid many unpleasant surprises.

Even without reading the faq I think everyone's already aware that nutaku is shady, so this kind of shit shouldn't surprise anyone. 1 year is a long time to leave an account inactive, but why is that they didn't just close it and delete it entirely instead of just wiping the balance? Because they're so thoughtful they wanted to leave you something in case you decided to come back and spend more?

Your nutaku account is forever, but your money isn't; they'll always want more of it.

I never read FAQs, but I remember reading THAT ONE. Anyway, many, many companies have this policy as well. This is why I don't deal with virtual currency, regardless of whether or not there is an expiration or what have you. There's also a clause in your ToS that stipulates Act of God as well as unwarranted intrusion (e.g., if they were hacked) as an exit clause for Nutaku on honoring their side of the bargain.

is there any way to check the expiration day of gold?

And what is the date of the last special offer of gold? ($300,+15%gold is it right?)

I asked this question in the LIVE chat and they said the FAQ is INCORRECT!!!!!

I'm not a 100% sure since their SPECIALISTS offered me a special offer and it's kinda weird. I entered the live chat under the general-inquiries page.

Well, I doubt that guy had thousands of free gold as he himself said that he bought it. Seems like their "specialist" doesn't know what he is talking about. Also Phil... Just go and complain to him about anything and he wil offer you some special deal. He always does. He is more like outdoor salesman trying to get you to buy something rather than specialist.

I'd never buy more monopoly money than necessary to make a same-day purchase. Still, this policy bothers me and the way Nutaku handled it (refusing your request and trying to nudge you to buy $100 more) is very shady.

I posted a poll on my Twitter account and linked to this thread. I'm curious what people who aren't Nutaku regulars would think about this.

If you think this is scummy, you may as well think all non-subscription MMOs are scummy, since I'm fairly certain most of them have similar policies.

Like, fine, if you think it's a shit policy, that's your call, but it's also nothing new and calling it shady is just silly.

Not all non-subscription MMO has same policy. There are popular free to play games that their premium currency never expires. Shadowverse crystals and Fire Emblem Heroes Orbs are good example.

General > Crystal purchase:

"Do crystals expire?
No, crystals do not expire."

Source: Head to Shadowverse.com and click FAQ-Contact at the bottom of the page.

Fire Emblem Heroes:

Faq > Orbs

"Do Orbs expire?
No, they will not expire."

Source: Head to Fire-emblem-heroes.com/en/ and at the bottom of the page, click FAQ. Then click "Questions about Fire Emblem Heroes" at the bottom of the FAQ.

I did say "most".

Though now that I'm trying to look back on them, they either changed their policies or outright died off. I vaguely remember kMMO localizers having this policy, anyway.

It's good to know that it is possible to change the policy or simply not to follow the bad policy. One famous example is Senran Kagura, because the producer sell his games without censorship to the west. This game is exceptionally faithful to the original Japanese release.. While many other heavy fan service games was censored or not localized. As a result, Senran Kagura has a huge fanbase in the west.

To follow up on this, I contacted Nutaku's social media manager about your situation and she was sympathetic. She was not happy about how your ticket was handled and offered a partial refund. You can follow up by contacting her at @nutakugames on Twitter (https://twitter.com/nutakugames) with your Nutaku ID, which will be matched against their records.

I also polled my Twitter followers (https://twitter.com/sanahtlig/status/833709796880687104) about this policy to get a sense of how such a policy might be viewed by the VN/eroge audience at large.

Don't waste real money on intangibles!

1. Nice necro
2. So how are you even posting? Internet service is an intangible. So is netflix, going to a movie/play/concert or any other entertainment experience.
3. It seems like a really stupid idea. People that don't read the FAQ will get burned once and never give 'em money again, and post negative threads like this one thus potentially alienating others. People that do will always buy just the bare minimum they need for whatever they are wishing to purchase, thus forcing Nutaku to rack up significantly more credit processing fees than if currency didn't expire... and also making the customer far more aware of just how much they are spending/kill casual purchases. I find it VERY hard to believe stealing like this (and I would have to argue that's what it is) is a net gain for Nutaku in the long run.
