How to use arcane/ chalice?

I have 2 arcanes but i don't understand how to use it.

Assume you're familiar with feeding regular SR weapon to enhance weapon skill, that 1SR=3.5R
Grails are more efficient, that 1SR Grail=5R, 1R Grail=2R
I usually enhance SR Grail to SL4 and feed it to SR w/SL19; R Grail to SL3and feed to SR w/SL6
Keep in mind it takes only 1R for the 2nd lvl up of R Grail, which I often forgot and waste 1 extra R...
