I was off of Nutaku for a couple weeks, then I came back and the game was gone. Why?

The answer is the same for any discontinued Nutaku game...it ceased to make enough money.

Was a tough IP to make work outside Japan. Idols are not really a male thing in the West

Small selection of girls. A lot of the same girls with different outfits and abilities. All the girls had far too much clothing to be appealing. Also why games like War Aigis, Girls Kingdom, Angelic Saga, and Lord of Valkyrie shut down.

Someone clearly has no idea what they're talking about.

Probably cause it was a reskin of dragon prov. Its a real shame though since the game had a much greater, eheh, "variety" of scenes rather than doggy style and missionary than DF had

As Anon pointed out, it wasn't making enough money. If I had to throw an ignorant theory to the wind I would say that it's because people in the western world are generally "poor" compared to our neighbors across the river. To elaborate, the cost of living seems to generally be higher, or at least that's the conclusion I came to after watching various YouTube personalities that talk about the subject.

Some people do have money, but causal spending is put more towards normie activities. Also there is the western bred stigma about sexuality that may turn people away too.

On another topic, pointing out Anon's "All the girls had far too much clothing to be appealing." comment. That may be partly true to some, many of us like the drawn out romanticism that is used in most games made in Japan.

One of the main things that turns me away from western games is they tend to lean on western porn tropes in their narrative. While this may appeal to others, I much prefer the romance driven style that is more akin to how romance novels are written.

I agree with Arkinum. Also, the most accepted theory at the time of the closure (well, because we never received any better explanation than "Devs at DMM decided to close it") was that they decided to keep only one of DP and IWZ afloat (they might have thought the community would simply migrate to the other as they were similar games) and IWZ was chosen for the purge as DP had some heavy whales while IWZ didn't manage to gather as many though there were still numbers. We will probably never be able to get any further than speculating regarding that anyways.

DP/IWZ is/was clunky and nigh-unplayable if your schedule didn't line up for the PvP. A game should never restrict PvP to fixed time slots.

Personally as I've said before it was all noise and colour, and I had no idea what I was doing how to progress and basically WTF was going on.

I also hear it turned heavily P2W on the competative side

Someone clearly has no idea what they're talking about.

And I have to stop and refute this, that's HIS opinion and it's got legs - for the market aimed at most of the girls didn't grab you and the time spent to get them going....aye, it's a valid point for some people

Unless someone states that it's an opinion and not factual reasoning, then I will believe it to be the latter, which in this case is and what they posted is completely wrong. But if that's how you see it, then take it as you will.

It was obnoxiously P2W. The pool of girls (and the specific variants of) that the various regular tickets drew from basically never updated for most of the game's life here.

I couldn't even figure out what the game was really supposed to be about. So many different upgrade materials everywhere. And was the battle system really just the girls' still-arts repeating a bunch of quotes at each other as health bars went down or something?

Super P2W and the rewards for playing were crap, not to mention the time slots for pvp that are a pain in your life if you want to achieve any of the miniscule rewards it offered.

Only room for 1 game with the type of predatory business model that capitalizes on victims tendency to feel obligated to spend more than they can really afford because their guild/friends/clan depends on them?

Eh, I found a way to get really good at DP without spending a dime. For some reason I couldn't do the same in IWZ...even though it's the same game just with a different skin. But I still quit DP over the timed PvP.

The game was badly designed.

- Strict PVP timetable didn't work for me. Just missing a few days, your peers would leave you behind. I have another life behind the monitor too you know.
- The "helping system" (forgot what it's called) was basically hell without any restriction. You won't even have a chance if you're a bit slower.
- Unlocking the h-scenes was a HUGE chore. Just hunting the mats for one girl required you to put extensive amount of hours... and luck because I suck at roulette.
- Heavy community-dependent. Guild management. Guild battle. The quest/"helping system". The game required a lot of people to be active for it to work. And who are these people? Free users. Not the whales. Actually the whales would eventually quit too if there're no free users around because where's the fun in playing a game stricken by inactive users? And why would free users quit? The rewards for the task were not rewarding enough to keep you playing.

TL;DR The game was a huge turn-off for me. So I quit. And I think this is the same for others too. No more playerbase = dead game.

This is just my opinion. Please don't roast me.

Agree to all points, just add events being nearly useless, grindy and had rankings for baiting whales again.

Japan people seem to like this bound schedule thing on games (playing PSO2 was hell), which is a huge annoyance to me and probably several others.
