I woke up this morning to find that my union leader had left and made me the new union leader. I have no idea how to lead one, so I was looking for some advice. The union is supposed to be casual, I think, so I won't be too harsh, but I do have plans to remove anyone not active after 2 weeks and I also plan to use the recruitment thread here.

Ask your union.

recruit people. talk to them. Do events.

It's really not rocket science , especially if you're a casual union

I found myself in a similar situation when the prior guild leader left and I was assigned guild leader. I stayed active which is the point of this game and being in a Union. I kept recruiting until I found a core of active players. Some had more time and knew more about min/maxing the game than I which is fine. I appointed them officers and sub leaders. I created a Discord channel for the guild/union. Some people joined, some didn't. I keep the active players and expelled the inactive 20 days or more. We are still an up and coming Union/Guild. But at least we now are growing in number and strength to clear the Union events. There is other admin task like burst times, guardians, etc.

This is just my take on it of course but... Be active, and don't be (too much) of a jerk (pardon the direct expression). What I mean with that is basically: always keep in mind what this is all about... a game which is supposed to be fun, for everyone. So if you try to do things with your union and some people don't care... leave 'm be. Everyone should be able to enjoy in their own way.

But also keep a close eye out for active players, maybe even promote them to fuel their motivation a bit. That helps!

Most of all: be active and keep in mind that what might be fun for you doesn't have to be fun for others.

I seem to be having a lot of trouble with recruitment, as I have been trying for a week or two after I became the leader to recruit more people and no one has joined, even after asking here. I'm not sure how to scout very well, as most of the recommended people are already in a union (and I feel like a jerk for asking people to leave their union), and I don't have the time to sift through, very slowly, a bunch of people to find the one or two not in a union. The recommended people are also pretty high in rank, and probably higher than we can get.

I suggest you to merge your union and build union with combined of all weak union so it wont fail a union event.

I think I'll try that, no idea who to merge with though.

will be hard for you to find some decent players, since they wont easily leave their union. All others would mostly like to test the game for a few days or weeks, then quit without a notice, so u will be busy with recruiting new members, freeing slots from inactives and recruiting again.
