The +60% Crit make her very good for any crit team since it's the best party crit buff of the whole game. And the debuffs help anyway. I think she is a good one. Not absolutly must have like RRose but she is in the top of best promoted girls.

Is the EX boss possible without Akane or whaling?

I somehow can't really get into any game of this type other than FKG.
Maybe it's a matter of having history with the game, getting invested in it with the translations and so on, or maybe just a precaution against another time sink.
