I really hope this is a trend. Japan seems so stubborn in recognizing the gold mine it is sitting on with such entertainment genres as anime and games like FKG. Their aversion to taking risks is actually hurting them more than taking the risk and failing. Western consumers are salivating at the idea of getting into this more. Sure it may be a niche area of consumerism, but there are millions around the world. Big anime conventions (like the one just held in NYC) all over the world should give them a strong hint to this.

While I wholeheartedly agree with you, it's no arguing that western whale are like a dwarf compares to Japanese one. The mindset is just too different. So maybe it just don't worth the cost of expanding the market if the customers won't sell their organs for waifu like Japanese do.

While I can understand what you are saying, I still think it would be very lucrative for them. Strictly being hypothetical with figures here but I can easily see it being like this:

1 Japanese whale: $1000 on FKG in a year
10 Western whales: $100 on FKG in a year

So yeah the Japanese whale may outspend us easily on a 1v1, the rest of the world outnumbering the population of Japan would make up the difference easily. So long as they do the right marketing to attract and keep customers playing.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the statistical reality doesn't match up with your hypothesized numbers. There's no debate that the rest of the world's population far outnumbers that of Japan; even in the U.S. there are almost three Americans for every Japanese citizen. The real question is, is there enough interest outside of Japan to sustain a robust and competitive market for games like FKG, thus making it worthwhile for devs to invest in localization for respective foreign audiences (which includes not only translation but also altering content as needed for compliance with local laws)?

I suspect that there simply isn't enough interest and my proof is self-evident: the games, and their corresponding markets simply don't exist in any meaningful fashion outside of Japan. As game2534 pointed out, the mindset is quite different. Were it otherwise, do you suppose Nutaku would keep losing titles that are no longer profitable (some of which are still being actively developed in Japan)?

Well, Japanese never want or care to deliver their own product to outsider.
They never think about create something for universal use, only for their people.
Only if you understand they culture, you can have your share, if not turn back.

I know there're a lot product translate to foreigne language, but they real thought is like what I said.
Look into DMM, most new game block foreigne access.
It will take a while for them to welcome outsider guest.
Formal reason for doing that is for server can work properly kind of. Sure why not.
But they real intention is they don't want outsider bother with their game before their own people.
