Thread: Why are western games so vulgar/distasteful?

So I tried a few of the games developed by westerners and it seems that compared to the games prepared from japan, all the games from the west can't go a single minute without mentioning sex. I mean i'm fine with dirty jokes but it just seems like they spew them a mile a minute, if they aren't just downright showing it. It just becomes grating after a while like listening to a broken record, so much so that without sex jokes or whatever, there is nothing else to substance of the game. Furthermore most of the language they use is fairly gruntish like calling girls "sluts" or "whores" (the primary offenders being phantasma or pussy saga). I'm fine with talking dirty sometimes, but there seems to be no modicum of respect contained in them, which turns me off completely. After all, all things are good in moderation, but I feel that the games I've seen developed by the west seem to be put way too much "sugar" in my tea.

Is it just me or does anybody else find this rather distasteful?

Good question! It might be due to translation or because the japanese seem to have a tendency of "keeping the gameplay and the lewds separate" In any case, i will agree that it feels like a hormonal teenager wrote most of the dialogue for games like the ones you mention because of a lack of respect towards story. And before anyone whines about "if you dont want porn in a porn game then go play a real game!" As op said, in moderation its good and can be quite sensual, but doing it like this is a mood breaker, all is good in the right amount.
Its a shame that dmm/nutaku opened up funds for the potential of western porn games and it feels like they had little to none to begin with. Might as well kept importing games from their site (AND LET SOMEONE ELSE TAKE CARE OF THEM *cough* goddamn sen pro).

Pretty much, story is the last thing in a western h-game creator´s mind anyway, if its in their mind at all.

well, for research purpose u can go take a look at exhentai or g-e hentai and search for west tag, and compare it to doujinshi or stuff from japanese. u will see for yourself the vast difference, and most of it goes according to what you've mentioned.

I remember games like The Witcher, Grand Theft Auto, God of War has sex sence. Despite they are not 100% porn or free to play game, they are one of the most successful video game contain sexual content that is made from the west.
