This way, they hold you in the game coming back to click along a couple of times a day, while the devs work on a real combat system or whatever they're doing.

Everyone agrees the game is unbalanced in a lot of ways, but removing a revenue stream and removing a source of player "stickiness" isn't going to help.
That's a fair comeback. However with Epic Pachinko, refreshing the stores, auto-collecting from your harem, instantly completing missions, and changing opponents in the arena, you could argue there would still be a lot of use for Kobans. And arguably, it's just as boring watching a sex scene in slow motion. Slower motion. You would have to play the game continuously for at least 48 hours to get through a quest. Longer for people who have school, jobs, or social matters to attend. I'm more concerned with them retaining new players than keeping old ones, because the new ones will have more interest in trying the game and staying with it if they can get through a decent amount of the story which means they would get more revenue from Kobans.
