I have no idea how the combat math works

So take this example of this arena battle I just lost.

My ego is 38.3k, his is 36.3k. I'm level 77, he is 82. First number are stats (HC, Charm, Know-How), then the damage in parentheses.

    Me:

    1,723 (1,318 - 2,629)
    1,659 (1,286 - 2,597)
    4,778 (6,488 - 7,800)

    Him:

    4,687 (6,315 - 7,384)
    2,255 (1,443 - 2,512)
    2,261 (1,682 - 2,751)

Pretty even matchup, right? Sure, he does a bit more damage in the nonprimary stats, while I do a bit more on the primary one (my Know-How vs his Hardcore). So it should be a close match, decided by who can crit more, right?

I start the battle and I deal 4,800 damage (non-crit) while he deals 6,200 (non-crit). Like, what? We have about the same stats but he deals 30% more damage? How does that work? Makes no sense.

First of all they recently introduced a rock-paper-scissor system (HC>Know-How>Charm>HC) with 20% dmg amplyfier. He is HC you are KH so he deals 20% more dmg to you. Combat heavily relies on critluck and I frequently encounter wins/loss against opponents with 20k Ego differences just because one person got lucky crits and the other one got none.

In your case, he does not only get 20% extra damage, but also his defense (his KH value) is higher than your HC defense but attack difference is not too big. Pretty much nothing you can do as most people are HC (as it was the only specialization in the beginning of the game) - everyone who is knowhow has to deal with a above average amount of bad match ups. The defs just didnt not think that through as usual.

Let alone that it would make more sense if strength would beat charm and loses to know how and charm beat knowhow and not the other way around.

In the other hand, Hardcore players only have average or sub-par girls to fight with. Samane (Know-how) is the overall best girl in game for fighting.
If you capitalize on Samane (bring her to 5 stars) and 2 strong girls, you should be able to put a fight against hardcore.

    Also:
    - raise your main stat, for better damages and ego
    - raise the hardcore stat, for better defence against hardcore players

For now Samane (KH) and Abrael (Charm) are the best, but HC currently only has 1 5star girl whereas the other specialities have 3 (1 charm and 1 HC girl are introduced with the latest patch) - so as soon as more HC girls come, the strength will equalize - also no way a single upgraded girl will make 20% dmg difference

Oh. I thought Bunny was the best girl in the game because she has the highest primary-stat. So the girl having secondary stats is just as important as having primary?

In that case, who else are strong KH girls? I'm currently running Princess Agate, Red Battler, and Rumiko, all 5*. Haven't gotten to Samane yet.

Summer Red battler (if you have her) actually has stronger stats at 3 stars than normal Red Battler at 5. You can check the girls stats here

The type match-up system just sucks, because there isn't anything you can do about it. Arena gives you a disadvantageous match-up? Too bad, you have to out-stat them by a pretty huge amount or just get a guaranteed loss.

Your main stat shows your damage, while other stats show defense (there should also be defense for main stat but apparently it's not shown anywhere? idk how that works)

From there, it's pretty straightforward - subtract their defense from your damage and you get the number. 6488-1682=4806, which is the damage you do. Now, with 20% rock-paper-scissors bonus, he does 6315*1.2-1318=6260 damage.

They're trying to make it more interesting than just plain stats, but currently they're failing at it pretty hard. Outstatting everyone is your best bet.
