I've spent several thousand dollars on Puzzles and Dragons, because when they make updates to the metagame or the base game mechanisms I know that they've thought things through and will make good changes that the players want. No matter how much money I spend on that game, I feel like it was worth it because of how much fun I have playing the game, and I know the developers respect the money I've spent and want to keep giving me a good experience even if I stop spending money.

In contrast, when I see a crappy update that makes things worse and is designed to make people spend more money and make event girls harder to get despite being thinly disguised as a good thing, it convinces me to NEVER spend money on the game since I can't trust that the developers won't make things even worse in the future to suck even more money out of me and make me feel like I've wasted any money I've spent. The more the devs try to screw over the players who don't spend money, the more convinced I get that I should never spend money on the game.
