how do the crucible of combat events work? I've never been online during one, so I have no idea what to do or how to obtain units.

Union events are miserable if you're not in a good Union.
If you're in a good Union, everyone works together to spend AP on farming Grails from Lilims (I'd say only farm Standard, it's roughly the same amount of Grails per AP for a fraction of the effort). This gets every 400 points to spend daily on buffs - usually double damage and double HP plus two other stats.
BP is spent to farm the Demons, who start off very weak, but level up as they get killed. Without Grail buffs, you won't get far. Without getting far, each Demon will yield so little PP that you won't get proper rewards.
Since you haven't been online during one, you're either a relatively inactive player or a new player. Either way, your chances of being in a good Union is slim. That means your experience will be... far from a pleasant one.
Hi guys. Just realized about this tweet from nutaku:
But the event page is gone...Reward Exchange of the raid Fortress of Coming Light will be available in the event page until the 20:00 Jan.13th [PST].
Don't forget to drawn your gacha and receive your rewards!

Yes it will cost holy soul points; Shingen's the final soul in the Yukimura-Masamune series.
It seems like that at some point, the orichalcum exchange on DMM got updated. In addition to the raid SSRs, there's now one new SSR for each element. 1 ori for 1 copy, as opposed to 2 ori for 1 copy of a raid SSR. They do seem to have worse stats than other SSRs (some having atk as low as SRs). But they do come with two skills. The one for light as well as the one for water seems interesting. For starters, the light one's a glaive instead of a type that light already has a bunch of (water's Yet Another Hammer, boring). But more interestingly, their second skill is an Ascension type. The light glaive has it at medium and the water hammer has it at large, apparently.
Ascension is one of the newer weapon skills; it's basically +healing (raises healing amount and healing cap of skills by the respective element). Ascension (small) raises by (4 + skill_lvl)%. Medium is 7 instead of 4. Ascension effects stack on top of each other additively. Also, apparently there is a cap on +healing of +200%. Either that was discovered through union events (most likely), or someone actually put together enough weapons with ascension of the same element (I'm not even sure if that's technically possible yet!).
Ascension effects stick out to me, as they're not all that common. Especially natively (instead of being tacked onto an older SSR through final limit break). And moreso, through guaranteed methods (ie not through a gacha).
Healing doesn't scale at all right now, so the Ascension skill must be the way of addressing that. Endurance builds will get a boost from this, but it's really far out. Worth noting for Endurance builds though.

so..i got SSR wind accessory and 2 out of the 3 skills is ability damage up.
i've thought to give it to oberon as she have 3 abilities that deals damage, but is it a good idea to give it to SR kami?
my SSR ones have only 1 ability that deal damage each (gaia, cu chulainn and odin) so oberon sounds better idea, but still not sure about it..
