I myself had not quite a team worth of awakened units by the end of the first week awakening came out, and it only took that long because I had to wait for each of the maps to go up. At this point I have somewhere around 40+ awakened units. However given how long it was before awakening was released, most of those had been waiting at max level for awakening to arrive, and only needed the awakening fairies and orbs. As others have said, you can't really compare the time it took pre-awakening players to awaken their first unit to those that began after awakening was already a feature.
