Probably a slight problem with your memory caused by the long pauses we had between events which might have made them seem longer.

No matter what I do, I can't kill Dracorich or Pumpkin King on Subjugating Evil. I even followed a video guide (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ql71q38kcus) But... I dunno, somehow Sybilla (which I used in place of Imelia) switched from blocking Pumpkin King to Blocking Dracorich or something, I don't get it.

Probably shouldn't bother too much more with this event though, I've only got 221 souls... I dunno how much SC others have spent to get the maximum or even halfway to that, but it's clearly more than I have.

When are you dropping her? I know something similar happened to me once when I placed her too soon. The Pumpkin King had not yet been close enough to block, and once she was placed, he began attacking, slowing him enough for her to start fighting the smaller pumpkin instead while he slipped past, and Dracorich came out and began fighting her. I find it works best to place her when the Pumpkin King is halfway across the slot.

Looks like I'm going to either just hit 700, or need to use 1-2 SC to hit that, which I'm fine with. This event really highlighted my need for a paralysis immune unit, so Rowanna's jumped to the head of my platinum queue.

This, more or less. If you saw the video, than I followed that pattern, but used Phylis in place of Aria, Liana instead of Chydis, Momiji instead of Maribel, Lolonee instead of Claudia, and Sybila instead of Imelia. That led to the defeat I mentioned above, but the next time, I swapped the places of Lolonee and Sybilla (using the former to block the Pumpkin King instead of Sybilla), and withdrew Alissa when her health got too low and put down Verdinate instead which got me 3 stars.

Holy, you'd think the 90/12 maps would have 100% drop rate for the item collectibles with how expensive they are, but nope, you could probably get nothing if your luck is particularly bad.

407 Souls... partway through it occurred to me that maybe I should just abandon the effort since I obviously wasn't going to get anywhere near a decent amount of souls, and that maybe I'd use her if they did a revival event and brought her back.

But I didn't listen to myself. Not sure if I should have or not.
