    Nutaku Downloadable Games Discussion Thread

A while back Nutaku started to sell VN's and other eroge. Their prices are usually reasonable and it's nice to have a vendor other than DLsite or Manga Gamer. Some of their games have just echi while some still have mosaics, but most of them are adult themed and have no censorship.

Anyway I thought it would be nice to start a thread where we can give our thoughts on some of the games they have available.

I picked up Sakura Dungeon a while back and it reminded me of Thunder Warrior Raidy in terms of dungeon crawling gameplay. If you are new to the "sakura" brand, they typically just do Yuri and their art-style is fairly distinct.

Not a bad game by any means, it actually has a decent story too. I'm sort of half and half on the Sakura brand. I like Yuri as much as the next hetero guy, but I feel their work a little dry sometimes. It's still a good play despite my misgivings.

The next game I picked up recently was Sunrider: Liberation Day, a turn based strategy VN hybrid. I loaded it up to find out that it was part two of the series and did a little research, to find out that the first game was free to get off Steam (the developers site has a de-censor patch FYI).

So the next 1 1/2 days I binged the first game (Sunrider: Mask of Arcadius), and then another 1 1/2 days binging the second game. I have to say that I'm really looking forward to the 3ed part! Defiantly worth the price of admission.

If you like strategy games and VN's with a space/mecha setting, you should really give this a try. The story is well thought out and keeps you at the edge of your seat, the characters are memorable and it's overall a great series.

I bought Sakura Dungeon. I highly recommend it. Think it's a really awesome game if you like dungeon crawlers.

Looking forward to see what else is going to pop up for download.

I got this with Liberation day and have been playing it for the last few days. Its a sim date, stat management game very similar to the stuff you find over at Newgrounds. The story is a spinoff of the main.

While you don't have to play the games it derives from, it kind of helps as a lot of "terminology" is carried over. Not a bad game, but like with most stat grinds, it get tedious after a while. Thankfully the game gives you shortcuts once you complete the game once, and it can go pretty fast once you get use to how the maps are laid out. The artwork is the same as Liberation day and is really nice.

My main gripe would be is that the "int stat" is kind of a heavy focus, and leaves no practical reason to grind the other stats. Another would be, is that they left out a few of the characters, but I guess they could release an update like they did Liberation days RE: story line.

    An alright game overall.

    Club Life

A short VN where you play a dork that is forced to pick two clubs because his homeroom teacher demands it! Anyway the game is a pretty short run though one year of HS, you pick two clubs and the plot revolves around the girls associated with those clubs.

Although some of the scenes/story are not too bad, it feels kind of dry all round. It doesn't have much art, but whats there is actually pretty good and kind of the only thing that makes this game.

If you're a hard core HS romance fan, or the art is to your taste of fapping material, you could give this a go. But if you're looking for a gripping and emotional story, you may want to look somewhere else.

This is an oldie but a real goodie. I got a shared copy of this game a long time ago. Finally decided to actually buy it now that the price is reasonable and payment options aren't limited to the point of stone walling any potential customers.

It's a point and click action RPG similar to how Diablo plays (minus the loot feast). You play as (default player name) Rudy, a young man that just got disowned by his old man. And thus he starts his journey to be an adventurer.

The story plays out like a regular "middle earth" fantasy visual novel and each heroine has her own story and ending. The game even has a hidden heroine too. Erotic scenes are illustrated via uncensored CG scenes. The art style is from an older standard, but still looks really nice (my own opinion anyway).

Heroines act as extra traveling companions and are controlled by the AI. Each heroine has her own unique class, skills and attacks.

The new game + feature allows you to breeze subsequent play-thoughs when trying to get each of the heroines ending (or just fucking around to have fun).
(Tip: Holding down the Tab key speeds the game up, great for pwning your way though each story when you get enough levels).

The game-play alone is really fun and enjoyable enough without the adult content.

This game is well worth the 15$ if you're board and looking for an action themed title.

EDIT: Ignore my "(minus the loot feast)" comment. You do get quite a few drops as you adventure along.

If you liked Sakura Dungeon you should buy Demon Master Chris. They made SD pretty much just like it.

Been a while since I posted in this topic. Considering how many games I got since then, expect a wall o text.

    Shards of Eradine

I dropped a comment in another thread about this game yesterday, but I'll summarize it here again.

This game is a semi instance open world RPG very similar to the famed Pokemon franchise.

It has a fair bit of bugs and an unpolished feel to it. Some elements of the UI could have been done better and there is not much in terms of quest, outside the main one. Erotic scenes are unlocked through the gallery via a semi rare in game item. Each of your nymphs (Pokemon) have 3 stages of evolution.

The story mainly consist of parody and 4th wall jabs. Some of it is funny, but you probably won't get a feeling of immersion.

The artwork is really nice and the theme is consistent. I can tell the developers put a lot of love into this game. But personally I think the current asking price of 25$ is a little much for such an unpolished game.

    Nakadashi Banzai

In this short interactive VN you play as a guy that uses pretty much any kind of lame pick up line he can think of in order to get laid. He also like to cum inside the women he successfully courts.

The artwork is nice but the really painful way they implemented the search mechanics will have you getting really tired and confused as you backtrack for the 100th time.

    Detective Masochist

By the same people who made Nakadashi Banzai. Same style of pretty nice artwork. As the title suggest, you play as a detective that likes pain. This VN has fetishes that lean toward male submission. There is also some supernatural stuff that causes one of your colleagues to futa size her clit.

I actually found the story kind of amusing too. Not that bad a choice if you are looking for something "out there".

    Girlish Grimoire Littlewitch Romanesque

It's been a while since I played this game, so forgive me if I make a mistake or two.

If you are looking for an eroge with actual gameplay and a really good story, look no further than this title.

You play the role of a magic instructor that has to take two girls under his wing and help them learn to be mages.

If you ever played princess maker then the gameplay will feel similar. Each day is represented like a calendar day and you decide the learning curriculum and free time too. When teaching the girls you have to roll dice to determine how much they learn that session. You get to bump the dice to help decide the outcome, but you still have to tactful while doing this as you start to loose point if you over bump them. The game has rogue like/ newgame + elements that help you to get though the next playthough. There is more to the gameplay, but I'll leave it at that for the sake of simplicity.

The story is told in somewhat random day to day chunks, and you get more of a specific characters story depending on your actions. There is a very nice cast of unique characters, each with their own rout. I really like most of the story line.

The artwork has an oil paint feel to it, and works really well for this kind of narrative.

A word of caution though. I've seen some people cry about the fact that you're playing as a teacher romancing his young students. So if you feel that this kind of story will upset your moral chi, then it's best of avoid it. If you're like me, and don't have any misgivings about imaginary characters in an imaginary world, then this game is definitely worth a look.

It's kind of expensive, but I feel it's worth the price. (EDIT: It seems they lowered the price since I bought it. It's currently 25$, which is a really good price for a game like this.)

    Koihime Musou

Another romancing of the 3 kingdoms story. You play as a guy that gets transported to another word/time, and in this world/time exist gender bent versions of historical characters. You are seen as a holy savior and end up leading and taking part in the romancing of the 3 kingdoms story/history.

There is some gameplay in the form of very simplified tactical battles. You basally memorize the formation pattern of your opponent and then just use a formation to counter that formation. You also get to select a general and a sub general from the current historical gender bent generals that have joined you and this gives you certain advantages in a variety of areas, from improved formation efficiency to special moves that can either make or break some fights.

The artwork is professionally done and looks great. Ero scenes are unlocked by choosing your favorite character each time you are asked.

There was an anime made that was based on this game for those of you that remember.

Anyway, that's it for now. I have a few more to talk about, but will post later.

My main complaint with the download games is they need to do a better job of clearly indicating if they are censored or not. Bought Chrono Clock only to find out it was censored, which (IMO) pretty much ruins the whole thing. (and I'd also argue that censored games are pointless, so arguably it shouldn't even be a question. Never even occurred to me any of these games would be. Nothing I've bought from Mangagamer or Jast has been... though I did notice manga gamer now specifies "without mosaics", so I guess some of their games have 'em now.)

So now I'm really gunshy about my purchases. If the "advertising" images don't make it crystal clear the H scenes are uncensored, it's an immediate skip.

(I'm also of the opinion there is too much Yuri content, which doesn't particularly interest me, but at least THAT is typically obvious by the pictures. I did get Sakura Dungeon, since I'm a fan of grid-based dungeon crawlers, but from what I remember it was too grindy. IIRC you had to be higher level than your targets to capture them, so you *needed* to be overleveled. IMO bad design there.)

You may want to re-download Chrono Clock as they supposedly uncensored it a few months back. I bought it during this last sale, but haven't had a chance to pay it.

But ya, I hear you. Sometimes you have to send in a ticket to find out if it's censored or not.
