The tournament is single elimination. When you lose one match, you're out for the week. If 300 people register, then on Monday, it does the first few rounds of that to get down to 32 people left and you play several matches consecutively or until you lose. There is a bug where the battle log only shows the last match you played on Tuesday unless you reload the game.
