Yes, you get gems, if it even lets you craft her. Go for armor/boots instead.

Is the event equipment only for the event girl?

Anyone know who's really good at DPS? I just got Zera and she has 200 attack speed but low damage I think. I haven't tried her yet but she seems like a crit based character spamming crits. I currently run Roxelana and Ava and Ava is on the weaker side even when Roxelana is 4 levels lower.

How can you level up maidens to level 3 with romance? Is that possible?

Just keep shoving crystals in them? Nuka only has two levels of affection, but everyone else is normal so I'm not sure why you're asking.

There seems to a be a new type of maiden, called guardians. I think they picked up some ideas from Dungeon Crusher Soul Hunters game. Cause they require some kind of shards to buy.

I just found out they let you do batches for the event store now, so if you're short on apples, kegs or beer hats it isn't a huge pain in the ass to convert event currency.
