I haven't been able to dedicate my entire life to an event yet because, hey, life gets in the way and sometimes you can't play Crystal Maidens all day (I have to be away from my computer for the day/ there's an emergency/etc.).
The problem is, if you miss one day of the event or don't use all of your energy wisely you're pretty much screwed for the whole thing. Add to that the really poor updates they perform mid-event that basically take the game offline for hours at a time. You have to understand, in advance, when the game's going to be down and they won't tell you. Just know that if the game says mission 3 will be available at 10 AM EST, it really means it'll go offline at 10 AM and won't be online again until 1 PM, so make sure you use all of your energy before that happens so you don't let any go to waste! It wouldn't be so bad if they just made all the missions available at once. I've never seen another game that does it gradually like that, especially when it doesn't even work properly.
I'm not certain yet if it's even possible to complete an event without using diamonds, because I haven't been able to do it. I put a lot of work into the last event and I still needed to use almost all of my diamonds to finish, and I had saved up a shit-ton.
So I'm doing a little experiment. I've been putting my all effort into this event, shirking everything else in my life, strategically choosing my missions carefully to maximize my energy and mission rewards, studying the ass-backward update system and adjusting to its crap factor and just generally doing everything humanly possible to finish this event without using diamonds. I'll let you know it it's possible but, even if it is, it's a hell of a lot of work to go through for a single reward.
In the latest Kamihime Project event, I was 2 days into the event and had already earned 5 copies of the event character, plus a bunch of other stuff, just to give you an example of how a great game does events.
