The catch seems to be stamina, though it's pretty well hidden at the start. You get 1 stamina every 2 minutes, clearing one wave of one stage is 10 stamina, the stages right outside the starting area have like 14-15 waves (and I'm guessing it increases at higher levels). That's like 5 hours of stamina regen to do one stage. You also have to save some stamina so you can start a crafting project before logging off because they quickly start to take like an hour and you can't play while waiting for a crafting task to finish.

The instant travel times are a factor of the VIP level you start with, free fast travel for travel times under 120 seconds. I have a feeling there is no free fast travel once VIP wears off. Likewise VIP level also controls stamina cap and the amount of free stamina you get per day, I'm guessing without VIP its 300 cap and 300 free stamina once per day. So that's like 4 stages per day, tops, with a little leftover for a crafting task.

It kind of seems like a decent game at the start, but I having a feeling it will all fall apart once the VIP wears off and all the early bonuses go away or become obsolete.

You can get infinite VIP very, very, very easily.
Step one: Create a nutaku account
Step 2: Do the referal with a VPN on that account so you have 500 nutaku gold (you need only 3 referal if you started with a refered account).
    Step 3: Buy 10800 diamonds
Step 4: Level up lvl 10
Step 5: Change faction to your main account faction
Step 6: Enter the guild of your main account (or create a temporary guild with your main account for that purpose)
Step 7: Gives the diamonds from the reroll to your main account (find a zone, get your main account and your reroll there, click on the warcamp, find your main account from the reroll perspective, you can gift from there).

It takes between 15 and 20 min to do that.

Do that 8 times, and you can buy 4 months of VIP. And from these 4 months of VIP, you will get 120*400 = 48000 diamonds (so you need only 3 new accounts for another 4 months).

This trick is pretty broken tbh. The "free" diamonds are not transferable, so I bought some lvl 50 blue tools and sold them to my main account. I have a stash full of blue/yellow/purple tools lvl 50 and 4 months of VIP without spending 1$.

Is there a way to change your faction?

If so, how is it done?

You need to complete the quest in the Imperial City to choose a class.

after you have reached level 10, you can travel to "the Imperial city" on the world map. In one of the buildings (i believe it was the palace), you can change your faction. You will get kicked from your guild if you have one, so you can join a new guild in your new faction. If you plan on changing factions, you should do it as soon as possible/avoid quests, so you don't start with a very negative reputation in your new faction.

    shiver me timbers Guest

    Question does it get better

stamina has been a deal breaker to me. 300 max only lets me clear 2 areas, then its waiting for 600 minutes...
Paying for mercenaries is cool, but at level 21 i 'could' have 3 mercs but fighting doesn't even pay enough for 2...
finally, like above, game start slow and gets worse fast. play for 5 min then i have to reload or game gets stuck in combat
