Girls and businesses have a certain skill requirement. The first time you need a skill for a girl's scene, you can activate the skill with energy points. Each skill takes up 5 points. In certain situations skills become unlocked earlier by completing a girl and should you complete the first five girls, all skills become unlocked. Since you can chose not to complete up to three girls and still advance to the next girl, you can ignore some girls and your skills will unlock in a different order.
Having skills at a higher level than needed, gives no bonus. So look up the girl you can unlock and her skill requirements. Training a skill higher than this requirement is not needed. You have to use energy for Skills, Money, Filming (Girls Stamina) and Practice (Girls Stats). The first two are needed to advance to higher girls, so you need to balance those two. And if it would take you days or even weeks to advance, maybe it is time to reset.
The time needed to earn the money to unlock scenes grows faster than the time needed to level skills up. In early game this is not apparent; you will be resetting a lot anyway, and start anew each reset.
Skills behave as having a higher lvl according to position when determining the time needed for the next lvl. So Humour 30->31 takes als long as Tricks 20->21. The growth in time needed is less than doubling the time, with each level. And it seems to slow down near the end. Skills have a maximum (that is higher or as high as the highest requirement for a girl).
Earlier girls only need 2-3 different skills. Later girls only have up to 2 skills not needed.
