I think if you have 1K cores saved up, its a decent trade off.
I have no idea about the stats for the Artillery, but M3 seems good for fast "up your face" unit. I use on or two of those and in the right situation it can be pretty useful. Plus she deals AoE in front of her.
Again, no idea about the other girl, didnt find her on Wiki so not sure if she is worth it. But since you are willing to spend the cores anyway you will get her regardless.

From what I could tell, the arty girl seems similar to Katyusha. Basically she comes out, pops skill, blows her load, then becomes more or less useless.

As for the 1k cores, it'd be for one of the exchange packages to get a random 5*, not the event units.

I fired up this game after weeks of not playing it and realized why I got bored with it quick. It's mostly to do with the grinding. I was surprised to read about people running into a wall with Commander scaling, which is a big turn off for me.

Right now, the best alternative to KanColle (it's even better!) is Azur Lane: http://blhx.wikia.com/wiki/Azur_Lane_Wiki

It's everything KanColle should've been, without the obvious cash grab system that DMM slaps in your face. What's nice is that the system doesn't reward whales (not outright anyway), instead they make money from the costumes for your ship-waifu, and certain QOL improvements in the game (which you can get absolutely free with some elbow grease)

And the best thing is that you're not limited to just 99% IJN ships and a token western lineup (if you can even call it that). You basically have all of the ships from WWII, and I like how ships like the HMS Prince of Wales (in summer costume shown below) and USS Hornet are represented. Been playing mostly this game and Terra Battle 2 (time filler) lately, though I still check in with FKG a few minutes daily.

Anything that can do what Katy does is a must have in my book.

Clearing an enemy horde at own commander or pushing through one in the field is just ... want it.
She can self explode and go sip rum and cola after that for all I care.

Only thing that can ruin her is gear cost or if she needs an insane loadout to do it.

I was pretty dubious about the rewards, they all seemed to cost so much and the reactions from people were ... mixed.
But having had a bit of time to look at them and seeing what I had collected today ... I can only say, total misunderstanding.

Okay. They are a bit slow in coming since it takes a lot of point to get to the event units themselves, and total beginners may miss out, but then I remember they are freaking 5* and all the goodie bags along the way and its is just, wild.

Anyone complaining over these rewards, sorry man, spoiled.

Now if they could only get rid of the grind and doll up a bit in general, that'd work wonders.

She cost 4 gears. Can be seen in reward screen. Getting her.

I have found that getting 20 wings or ghosts per day is quite doable, that = 126k to when you add your pumpkins you should be able to get 1 copy of each girl easy enough with no extra spend. to get 3 copies of each you need around 1500 cores (6 x the 50/50 deal for an extra 90k score) or to spam the invasion maps and such for more pumpkins.

Bahaha, I got a dupe in the 1000Core/pumpkin tradeoff + another in the loyalty free 5* and i only have five of the things I am so pissed.

Yeah. It is a pretty sweet deal if playing the game each day. If not doing that or not wanting to farm, just getting the 3k and 60k rewards are super easy at a huge payoff/reward for very little effort. All-round good deal.

Damn shame they didn't do events when this game launched and then kept them rolling. We'd be a ton more players around. Now, hard uphill to keep those still in while attracting random players passing by.
