It looks like one of the goals of the new whaleship maps is making mono-type ships viable. With Flower Cannon functioning similar to a re-act ability, the difference between 16% and 100% trigger rate has become far more significant. My auto-arranged slashing ship seems less likely to be screwed by the RNG than my 16x slashing type one, despite losing 230k power.

Ok, time to take a break from the whaleship.
I've bought out all the equipment from the store (with 140 stamina pots remaining).

I didn't really get into GS in the past, though I played the tutorial and it seemed to be interesting.
