The reason they cannot adopt the same business model is because of the player base. The culture of Japanese players is VERY different to any other player base in the world. More free things in Japan works because the players will spend with or without those freebies. Westerners will not, if things come too easy then they will just not spend and wait for the free stuff. Sure there will be whales that do not wait, but more of those players who spend a little would be spending nothing and I can tell you from experience a lot of small customers adds up fast. That's the reason micro-transactions are so popular right now, they work better then asking for a higher price from less people.
