I've only played the DMM version for about a month, so I'm certainly not an 'expert'. However, after looking at them, it honestly looks a bit redundant and inefficient to have both of them/two 'healers'. I wouldn't be surprised if there are/will be summons that boost both wind and light elements passively, but the elemental boosts from equipped weapons is not nearly as forgiving(and the main reason why a single element is generally prefered).

I'm not saying you can't mix elements if you really want to, just that you're going to have to choose and accept the sacrifices that come with it. If you go for an even split between wind and light, your entire party will only be operating at half of their potential. Alternatively, if you were to specialize in wind, for example, Sol would effectively just be a gimped character that is tagging along. If you're okay with that, more power to you.
Well, I was thinking more in terms of Gaia tagging along, but I guess it's the same. Clearly I am not a whale (I am not willing to spend thousands just to get 2 characters) but I guess I wouldn't mind spending some money if I like the game and if I get lucky to get Sol and Gaia (I like their artwork) then I was wondering about putting them in the same team.

Fully upgrading SR Eidolons is an equally steady process as you can generally farm either their exchange materials or get them to drop directly from bosses. Each event will also offer an SSR eidolon with enough copies to max it out if you put in the effort.

TL;DR:
Eidolon from the gacha are a short term investment that are a pain in the butt/wallet to fully max out.
So... Is there a point to keep that shiny SSR Eidolon if it's going to stay on lvl 40?
