I'd say this project depends on the community members' contribution. He also put up a note someone can continue the project if he couldn't afford or too busy to update it (iirc). You don't really need to download a new "build" of the player, the updates uploaded can be simply pasted into the player's directories. Only download it if you don't have any idea how to put in the previous updates which had different instructions (or for short, you don't want to go through several updates since the very first).
