Eidolon effect only works if that eidolon is set as your main eidolon (and only the current team's main eidolon will be active), but you can also use a friend's main eidolon (as a support) and it stacks with your main eidolon's effect. Sub eidolons are used for their stats and summoning effects, and friends can't use them.

A side note also, if you want your friends to have more of your eidolons to choose from.. set a main eidolon of each element for every team since they will all show up for them even if you aren't using a specific team.
