It says it's not available in my region so I always assumed it was a Japan-only version. Why is it that others seem to be able to access it?

jp version is not available for me - since im rus, but the easiest way is to run apk on emulator - it doesnt check ip
(idk if chinese ver has even apk, and i will NOT check)

I'm not in Japan or China but both version available for me, the chinese ver didn't work on chrome tho, so I have to switch to firefox.
Just check in this version to see what they have and don't plan to play here but I just thought if somehow suddenly nutaku or this chinese ver dead, they could tranfer the data and players to the other version, since both in the same state.

Isn't Nutaku an 'Original Game'? So I'd think these games are considered separate entities under the licensing agreement.

If the game is "dead" it will be because DMM decides to kill it. Its irrelevant who is hosting it - Nutaku or DMM.

If they (DMM) decide to discontinue Chinese or Western edition, they will have zero reason to "transfer" it anywhere. The only "transfer" you can hope of is some "migration" to a new game they are promoting (e.g. you get some bonus in new game for some of old game stuff).

vpn? since when u need that to play on dmm? it lets me play from the UK without any kind of vpn or emulator or whatever...
