I did that for my first play through of each level but looked up guides once I hit snags. (Most of my units are still low level so I needed guides to see what units I should level as I only started playing 2 months ago roughly).

I did the same for the most part. But this one being a month long lets me experiment more than most events so I am using it to learn as much as I can.
Just got 2* on the 55/7 map and I know what I did wrong. Should be able to 3* it tomorrow.
