I feel that this game is meant to be a trial and error in itself. If you could test your team 100s of times before you do the map, then it destroys part of the challenge.

i agree. it's part of the game. That's why u don't get comision sortie for event maps
The problem is that right now I just use video guides for difficult missions, which is even less of a challenge. Of course it's my own choice to do so, and actually I'd prefer to figure things out on my own. But as a f2p I can't afford to waste 5+ stamina per run if I want to do well in an event, especially as a somewhat new player who's trying to catch up. This is probably my biggest gripe with the game. I can see why there's no sandbox mode from a business perspective though.
Well, even if there's videos there's bound to be differences. We all get a fair amount of different units so we need to readjust to what we have. I often watch videos to see how mobs spawn rather than their actual strategy for winning. If there is a mob that hurts a lot i will detect that too and determine what i want to tank it with etc. I still have to try out my strategy once i decide to do the map, though.
Somewhat different. A lot of them can still use silvers and golds, but the most difficult maps require awakened units and such things.
I think videos are handy but even the silver only ones can't be relied upon for a complete strategy. Eg - they usually have max CRed units and most beginners/intermediate players won't have those.
Also pay attention to the Prince's level in the videos. Thats the true indicator where they are in the game. Unless its from another player of a similar level in the game it won't help much apart from a general idea of what units to use, where to place, timing etc.
Know your team, know how you like to play. In my case I generally prefer Witches over Archers so I'll go 2/1 instead of what most people recommend in 1/2. But it can also depend on how lucky you get in the Shrine. sometimes you just have to use what you've got and fill in the gaps as best you can.
