| This weapon was formally adopted in 1964 and was the first domestically produced gun in post-war Japan. It was used by each branch of the SDF and the Japan Coast Guard. These days they use Type 89 rifles instead, but the preliminary SDF, MSDF and ASDF still carry them for non combat purposes. They use 7.62x51mm NATO rounds, basically so they can share ammunition with Japan-based US forces in case of emergencies. | ||||
