Personally I prefer the xp tables here as they show total experience for each level (kinda seems like that thread should be stickied). As a female black premium unit presently gives 26400 a black unit would need to be level 69 with 1,401 or less experience left to hit level 70. 8000 less than that would be level 65 with 587 or less experience remaining. Another 8000 less would be level 61 with 857 or less experience remaining. Yet another 8000 experience less would be level 56 with 366 or less experience remaining. And one more 8000 experience increment would be level 51 with 993 or less experience remaining. Aiming for any of those level with the specified remaining experience to the next level would allow you to hit 80 with a combination of purely the duplicate Sophie, platinum armors, and black spirits while wasting minimal amounts of experience.

There is also this comment on the wikia page with a link to an XP spreadsheet. While it is useful, it doesn't do calculations for awakened units, but it should help you calculate the needed fodders a bit easier.

But we do seem to be going off topic with the unit XP.
