What time does the event period goes by, it said the event ends 1/10/17 so I thought I had today to grind out more stuff, I had 200+ exploration of the special map left and around 12k things I didn't spin with so that just went to waste.

Writing this at 7:30pm on 1/10/17 I thought I would have till midnight

Look at the time remaining on the event maps, then assume it ends the night before.
