No stat boosts to attack or defense. It can't be leveled up. The effect doesn't stack with character abilities that also impact shine crystal drops. And the solar blast doesn't really seem that great against the high end bosses.

I sure wish I had my 500 coins back. I'm never going to use this thing, and they should be more up-front about what it is and what it does.

Sorry you wasted your cash. There's a Daily Deal thread where we discuss the various deals; if you check there first in the future you might find additional info to help you decide what to buy. The consensus there was pretty much what you ended up having to learn the hard way.
