I guess the issue was that I was focusing on the one phrase, but being thoughtless could also be considered reckless. You can be reckless because you aren't thinking things through. Being reckless is acting without thinking or without considering the consequences. Now I won't argue against the translation, its set in stone, but I feel recklessness would fit in this situation.
It's okay, we'll just shower her in flowers and rubies to the point where this is basically canon.
Edit: Also, speaking of the topic of her sacrificing herself so that her men could be spared, it'd be interesting to see what kind of stories the monsters are telling our opponents for everyone to think the Prince is some spoiled twat who is incompetent and affluenzic. (At least that's what I gathered from the dialogue that I read.)
