It just sort of "updates the list" one single time, resulting in a new set of invites if any are available. So you'd still have to hit the bosses you see before anyone else nukes them, the list won't automatically update while doing nothing. So, it's good to know what activities trigger these "list updates", and it seems giving presents is one of them.
