Being a whale generally refers to someone who buys a LOT of Nutaku Gold to play the event gachas and get almost every girl available. Obviously, there are very few of those, but they make by far the largest segment of finances for Nutaku.

And yes, it is extremely rare to get a 6* outside some of the guaranteed deals which pop up about every other weekend. The chance to pull one is 0.5%. Even in a 10+1 pull the chance to get one or more is only about 5.36%, So on avarage, you'll see a 6* only about once every nineteen 10+1 pulls..

As for event-stuff to get:
-Do get the girl and her blooms. Don't think "I'll use a skill bloom from life crystals for her", since you better use those skill blooms for girls you obtained from gacha.
-Do get all the jewelry. It's unique, and we won't get better jewelry than Event jewelry for a while

All the other stuff: It's personal preference, whether you think it's a good deal or not.
Some people will get the Manyus during the next phase, others feel Manyus are better farmed from the daily or SG.
Some people will get all the presents, others will skip them.
Some people will get the bags of gold, others swim in gold and won't need them no matter how cheap they are.
etc.

Just grab the stuff you really want first, then consider whether the rest is worth the effort to you.
