I would be burning stamina on whaleship missions, but...

My 110,000 hot spring steamed buns...all donated to maintenance.....

It has officially been 8 hours...

This maintenance has taken much more time than usual, should we expect something big going on in this update?

It's a snapshot/mega-update. They're very much adding brand new major features to the game. And if the past track records are anything to go by you can expect to see a lot bugs to show up for the next few weeks after it.
