Is this the same thing as previous times with the boat races where you have like a four hour window in the middle of the night to collect your winnings from the last race before the update? If so, shame on you FKG devs.

Yes, it's the same thing. Unless you specifically plan to be in that window, don't count on getting those rewards. There's always someone who waits to spend their event currency until they get the results from the last race, and end up missing out entirely. Don't be that person.

That said, I really wish the devs would leave the shop open for another day after an event ends.

Really dislike this race didnt show the prizes for voting, didnt give me the urge to do so after I cleared the event shop.
No special rewards for me I guess...

Same rewards as the first final... so nothing really worth having except the salt ticket.

EDIT: Oh wow, they went to maint BEFORE the race was even held... that is just super weird. The race is not held for another 17 mins at the time of this post but the maint has already started for me.
