The jewelry upgrade materials are a little bit more cost-efficient for upgrading jewelry than using other jewelry for upgrading. It's quite comparable to lvling your girls using lvl 5 manyus vs lvling your girls using dupe girls.

good thing i never lvl equipments until dis event - would used up gold for no reason

then again, I didn't know we had manyu equipvalent of lvl weapons since I didn't bother lvl up equipment only my gurls

Well, I leveled up quite a few pieces over time, though I have seen people who leveled about twice as many pieces. And I ran out of goldpieces quite a few times because I leveled that equipment.
Still, I do think it was a good investment. It will be easier to level jewelry in the future, but the benefits were definitely noticable. An avarage 5* unit like Southern Cross for example, often takes only 1 damage when being hit by pests and bosses on event maps, though it helps that she's in my debuff squad as well, so damage already gets reduced a lot. Still, you do need both a very high defense and a big ATK debuff to reduce damage that much.
